It is said that when the new post office was built and the business moved from Milton, a visitor enquiring the whereabouts of the Post Office was told that the new Milton post office was just up the road. The name stuck, the town becoming known as New Milton. Whether true or not, the town of New Milton is a thriving community with many shops and a couple of supermarkets. The main street north from the centre is Station Road, which as the name implies, leads to the mainline railway station. The farmers’ market is situated along here in a courtyard set to one side
